Hello everybody! My name is Gonzalo Vílchez Pinto, and I am from a small town northwest of Madrid. I studied Health Biology at the University of Alcalá de Henares (UAH) and I have always been enthusiastic about Biochemistry and the study of Molecular Biology. It was not until my final degree project when I discovered the field of Structural Biology which I was fascinated by, as it is an area that requires knowledge in biology and chemical-physics. I joined Dr. Araceli Díaz’s group in 2023 where I am currently doing my PhD in the field of Computational Structural Biology co-directed by Dr. Maria Garrido & Dr. Antonio Molina. The main goal of my thesis is to develop a computational method to determine the structural basis of glycan recognition by plants and to accelerate the discovery of protein-glycan binding. Although I now spend most of my time in front of the computer screen, I also really enjoy it when I can put on my lab coat! Beyond science, I love pizza, traveling, old-fashioned music, diaries (which remind me of everything I forget) and reading. I hate fish soup, hot days, main characters in novels and disrespectful “domingueros”.
